"One Bad Night" is the second single and fourth track off Hayley Kiyoko's third extended play, Citrine. It was released on September 30, 2016 and later as a single on October 11, 2016 through Atlantic and Empire.

In her self-directed music video for One Bad Night, Hayley tackles trans violence by telling the story of the two strangers Amber and Donald. The video depicts how Amber (portrayed by Erin Armstrong) gets kicked out of her home and wanders through the streets with all her belongings at night. At the same time Donald (portrayed by Kelvin Harrison Jr.) gets mocked by his Valet Boss (portrayed by Jimmy DiResta) at work because he was late. He decides to steal a car he was supposed to park and goes on the highway.
Later, Amber gets attacked by male gang members who abuse, taunt her, call her names and dehumanize her simply based on the fact that she is transgender. Donald witnesses this by coincidence and steps in. However, he cannot take the gang down alone and so they steal all of Amber's belongings and leave both Amber and Donald who are moderately injured in a dark alley.
Donald then picks Amber up and the two drive to a local diner. Even though they had horrible nights they end up having a good night.
Kiyoko does not just shed light onto trans violence but also wants to embrace human compassion by showing how to strangers befriend in such a "shitty situation". [2]
The music video itself has been highly praised by critics for its LGBTQ+ centered topic and by touching trans violence in a very graphic yet realistic way. However, some transgender people describe it to be very triggering for them. Kiyoko in response does not want to shy away from depicting the truth as it is and has gained a lot of positive feedback for this music video.
