"Let It Be" is a promotional single and the thirteenth and final track off Hayley Kiyoko's debut album, Expectations. It was released on March 16, 2018 through Atlantic and Empire.
Background[]
The song was first announced on March 15, 2018[1] as part of "#CountdownToExpectations" held on Kiyoko's social media profiles. Kiyoko also revealed that she would be dropping the song the next day because she "felt like it".[1]
The single was released two weeks prior to the album's actual release as the album's only promotional single so far.[2] The song is about the struggle of bringing a relationship to a necessary breakup and the heart-wrenching decision behind that.
In an Instagram post Kiyoko said the following:
- "Sometimes good things come to an end and you donât know why or how it happened. But there was a reason for that chapter in your life. You grew and learned to love. Itâs hard to follow your heart and listen to your gut when you know things just wonât work out.
LET IT BE. is about accepting the bravery to move on, and start a new beginning, even if itâs hard. I love this song and I hope you connect with it too." - —Hayley Kiyoko about the song in an Instagram post[3]
Lyrics[]
[Verse 1]
Baby, come around 'cause I need you
Baby, calm me down let me see you
'Cause you know you're my operator
Let me show every single layer
Losing all my power just to have you
Hundred miles an hour thinking 'bout you
Every night gets a little tougher
How can I dream about another?
[Chorus]
'Cause I believe we're the ones who had it all
I believe we just had to learn to fall
I miss you, I love you, so it's really hard to see
Yeah, we just got to let it be
[Post Chorus]
Let us see, be free
[Verse 2]
Baby, come around 'cause I want you
Laying on the floor here without you
'Cause you know you're my operator
Help me show every single layer
Giving baby steps a new meaning
Yeah, I'm making such a mess of my feelings
Won't you just meet me in the middle?
Where's the love, won't you give a little?
[Chorus]
'Cause I believe we're the ones who had it all
I believe we just had to learn to fall
I miss you, I love you, so it's really hard to see
Yeah, we just got to let it be
[Post Chorus]
Let us see, be free
Let us see, be free
[Bridges]
Can't imitate us it's breaking my bones
Caught up in chaos that keeps me alone
Wasted the beautiful all on my own
I'm making a new home
Washing the sheets 'cause you're still in my bed
Can't leave the dark 'cause you're all in my head
All in my head and it's killing me, it's killing me
'Cause we're at the end
[Chorus]
I believe we're the ones who had it all (I believe)
I believe we just had to learn to fall (I believe)
I miss you, I love you, so it's really hard to see (it's really hard to see)
Yeah, we just got to let it be
