HK2 is a placeholder name for Hayley Kiyoko's upcoming sophomore album. It was first announced on December 6, 2018 and originally thought to be I'm Too Sensitive For This Shit. However, on January 18, 2020 Kiyoko reaffirmed that the album is a separate project and that she is still working on it.[1]

Background

Before the release of I'm Too Sensitive For This Shit, Kiyoko had already announced that she has plans to work on her sophomore studio album on December 6, 2018 at the 2018 Billboard Women in Music Awards in an interview with Billboard.[2]

At the 30th Annual Glaad Media Awards on March 28, 2019 Kiyoko confirmed that after touring Europe for both her Expectations Tour and European Encore Tour for the last couple of months, she has started working on new music for her second album. She also stated that the "color palette" of this project is "darker than [...] her debut [album]".[3]

Upon the announcement of I'm Too Sensitive For This Shit it was still unclear whether the project was her sophomore studio album or a separate project. After the release of the EP the album's status was unknown with many believing that the album had been turned into an EP. On January 18, 2020 Kiyoko took to social media to cancel her then upcoming I'm Too Sensitive For This Shit Tour "due to a lot of factors not aligning".[1] In the same post she confirmed that she is still working on her second studio album:

"Please know that I’m not going anywhere. I won’t be taking any time off. I will be using this time to work extremely hard on my new album in order to give you my absolute best."

On February 6, 2020, during a livestream on Instagram about her Hue fragrance Kiyoko talked about her upcoming album. She revealed that the album has a similar sound to "What I Need"[4]:

"I've been working on my new album and this Hue perfume definitely reminds me of my new music. [...] I've been working on my album for a very long time and I've just wanted it to be perfect, and elevated and epic. I don't have anything mixed [...] but I'm about to get the music mixed and hopefully have some new music for you soon."

Kiyoko then proceeded to play snippets of three upcoming songs "Forever", "Never Let Me Go" and "Take a Chance on Me".
